In Scotland, Scottish Gaelic is usually just called Gaelic - pronounced
gah-lic - and Irish Gaelic is pronounced gay-lic but often prefixed with
the word Irish. I understand in Ireland it is not referred to as Gaelic
amongst speakers of the language but only the most erudite would know that
outside Ireland. In fact my uncle whose mother was Irish calls it Irish
Gaelic.
