Hi All,

I'd like to bring up the following items here so that they are also
included in the CN show.

1. Change of approach to recording the Community News show.

If anyone is interested in recording the Community News show, please get
in touch 1:1 prior to the recording. Having people drop in has not
always been ideal technically, or helped with scheduling deadlines some
of the hosts may have. By arranging it before hand we can pick a
suitable time that works for everyone, and agree on a common platform
for recording.

It would be great if you have listened to all the shows, and are
prepared to read out the comments provided.

2. How we are expected to behave.

Following some questions on Matrix about use of the explicit flag, I
gave the following clarification, as it reflects the current state of
things as I understand it. Correct me if I'm wrong:

We place trust in the people of the community to do the right thing. It
is always first and foremost the responsibility of the host themselves
to think how their words would impact on others in the community.

If you are ever asking if you should put in an explicit tag on an
episode, it means you should put it in.

While
[Swearing](https://lists.hackerpublicradio.com/pipermail/hpr/2012-April/000640.html)
is allowed, remember JWP's Granny is listening. Don't go out of your way
to be belligerent.

We follow the principle that inside the shows, free speech applies. As
with
[Shouting_fire_in_a_crowded_theater](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shouting_fire_in_a_crowded_theater),
there are exceptions. We do not post hate speech, copyright music, etc.

If you think it's going to be excessive then, please put a warning at
the beginning of the show. Something like - "Sorry I went off on a bit
of a rant in this one, so if you're listening to this in a public place
it might be best to put in headphones or listen later". Have a listen to
[hpr1309](https://hackerpublicradio.org/eps/hpr1309/index.html) for how
we did it.

If there are complaints about anything technical, or otherwise, we have
[policies](https://repo.anhonesthost.net/HPR/hpr_documentation/src/branch/main/policies.md)
to deal with it.

Outside the podcast audio, eg shownotes, tags, feeds etc we still expect
the host to do the right thing. In cases where they don't the janitors
can and do intervene. We follow the [Parental
Advisory](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parental_Advisory) approach,
akin to the covers on the cd's in the shops. Listen to "[hpr2210 :: On
Freedom of Speech and
Censorship](https://hackerpublicradio.org/eps/hpr2210/index.html)" for
more information. There is no point in having a warning on the intro of
the show if the shownotes, title, and text to speech intro already
contain the offending phrases.

This of course extends to anywhere where we have an "official HPR"
presence, Matrix, Telegram, Mastodon etc but also booths and anywhere
your are representing the HPR Project.

3. HPR Wikipedia gone again.

Frankly this is annoying. We did have a page, but now it's gone without
trace. We have very much exceeded the bar to have a page, and it would
help in communicating with third party organisations, and policy makers.

If there are any wikipedians out there, who has not already contributed
a show, please help us here. I'd just like to know why our page was
removed ?

3. Recent policies

3.1
We will no longer be actively posting to twitter/X on a daily basis, but
will continue to monitor it.
https://lists.hackerpublicradio.com/pipermail/hpr/2026-February/004967.html
Stop posting to twitter/X, while continuing to monitor it.

3.2
Changes to the reserve queue have been made, as per
https://lists.hackerpublicradio.com/pipermail/hpr/2026-January/004942.html
You now will by now have noticed a change to the tone of the announcement.
It's OK to mention that the show is a reserve show, and even to ask for
contributions, but hosts should please not place any warnings in their
reserve episodes. These will be added automatically by the following
script.
https://repo.anhonesthost.net/HPR/hpr-tools/src/branch/main/workflow/hpr-prepare-reserve.bash

3.3
Clarification on discussions on Policy Change: Changes to scheduling
guidelines
https://lists.hackerpublicradio.com/pipermail/hpr/2025-September/004922.html

You should read the Scheduling Rules as a If then then statement, as in.

  1. You must have your audio recording ready to upload *before* you
pick a slot.
  2. New hosts, Interviews, and other time critical shows should use the
first free slot.
  3. If not 2, then always try and fill any free slots that are
available in the upcoming two weeks.
  4. If not 2, and 3, then when the queue is filling up then leave some
slots free for new contributors. Post non urgent shows into the first
empty week.
  6. If you are uploading multiple shows, please leave at least two
weeks between your chosen slots.
  7. If you have a non urgent show that is timeless, then add it to the
Reserve Queue <https://hackerpublicradio.org/about.html#reserve_queue>.

4. AOB

If anyone has any other business they would like mentioned then please
reply here, or send it to us directly.
